ST = Stereo broadcast
DVS/DVI = Descriptive Video Information
Some programs provide an additional narration, which enables
visually impaired persons to hear enriched verbal descriptions
of the action being seen on the program. Most TVs and
VCRs require that you select the SAP channel in order
to receive and record DVI. For a list of upcoming programs with DVI, call our
Automated Program Information Line at 415.354.8000
SAP = Secondary Audio Programming
Options offered on some programs accommodated by recent TVs and VCRs, including sound with
video description for the vision impaired, a director's narration, foreign language narration,
or other possible services. May be called MTS (Multi-channel TV Sound) or 2nd Channel Sound on some sets.
E/I = Educational/Informational
The FCC has required that all commercial broadcast stations carry at least three hours of
educational programming for children per week, and that those programs be clearly identified.
Programs and series deemed to satisfy this requirement generally carry an E/I code
in the upper right corner of the program. KQED easily surpasses this guideline each week.
