Fiber Optic Security
Telephone service has returned to normal in Santa Clara County. Yesterday, vandals opened manhole covers and cut fiber optic
lines that provide cell phone, land line and Internet service to some 50,000 customers. Security experts say physical sabotage
of the nation's networks is extremely rare, but yesterday's vandalism does raise questions about security of fiber optic cables.
