Remembering Del Martin
Lesbians and gay men are honoring the life of Del Martin, whose fight for equal rights over more than 50 years made her an
icon of the gay rights movement. Martin and her lifelong partner, Phyllis Lyon, founded the nation's first advocacy group
for lesbians in 1955, when homosexuality was considered a psychiatric disorder. This summer, they were the first same-sex
couple to marry legally in San Francisco. Sarah Varney has this reminiscence.
