America's primary-care physicians have been showing more discontent in recent years according to a recent survey measuring career satisfaction levels. The survey also looked at the concerns of primary care doctors and their place in the medical hierarchy, as well as the diminishing number of students entering the field. This program examines the issues behind these "physician blues" and the characteristics of managed care, primary care and the differences between specialty and non-specialty medical careers in the U.S.
Host: Michael Krasny
Guests:
Dr. Anmol Mahal, president of the California Medical Association
Dr. Ellen Mahoney, a doctor at Humbolt County General Surgery
Dr. Kevin Grumbach, professor and chair of the department of family and community medicine at UCSF Family Medicine and San Francisco General Hospital.
Michael Alvarez, director of the School of Medicine Career Center at Stanford University and a member of the board of directors at the Bay Bio Institute
