Leaders of 20 island nations, plus Hawaii, gathered earlier this week for the Pacific Islands Conference of Leaders. It was the eighth time they met and the first meeting in Washington, D.C. It gave the heads of government from nations like Fiji, Tonga and Papua New Guinea a chance to share their concerns with Congress and administration officials.
