Minidoka
On February 19, 1942, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a presidential order giving local military authorities the right to designate
certain parts of the US as "military zones", allowing them to exclude groups of people from those zones. Executive Order
9066 provided the framework for the forced relocation of 120,000 people of Japanese descent from the West Coast, the majority
of whom were American citizens. It would be 46 years before the government apologized for the internment. Some of the ten
camps where Japanese Americans were held have become historic sites operated by the Park Service. Among them is Minidoka in
Idaho.
