Saturdays on Q - 4/16/05 : "Not a Genuine Black Man"
Celebrating its one-year anniversary this month, Brian Copeland's "Not a Genuine Black Man" is now the longest-running one man show in San Francisco history. Copeland grew up in San Leandro at a time when it was 99 percent white. The play explores what that experience was like, and how society defines being black and being genuine today. Copeland talks about the challenges he has faced and the prospects for an upcoming series on HBO. KQED TV's Spark series will also feature Copeland on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:30pm on Ch. 9.
