I Can't Marry You is a timely one-hour program that explores the lives of 20 gay and lesbian couples in long-term, committed relationships. Narrated by Betty Degeneres (Ellen's mom), the program includes interviews with a generous cross-section of gay and lesbian couples from across the country. Those featured in the documentary represent a variety of ages, professions, ethnic groups and religious backgrounds.
By meeting these same-sex couples and seeing their real life stories, viewers will see how these folks go through their daily lives, how they "came out," and how they are affected by the legal obstacles they face as unmarried couples. In most places in the United States, same-sex couples are denied the civil rights conferred on heterosexual couples.
I Can't Marry You is produced by FYI Productions. Catherine Gray is the producer. It is presented by KQED and distributed by APT. The underwriters are RSVP Vacations, Genre Magazine, India Point Project and Olivia Cruises and Resorts.
