About seven percent of children in California are uninsured. Some families simply don’t know they can apply for federally and state funded health insurance programs. But many of those children aren’t eligible for those programs because of income or immigration status. That’s where Children’s Health Initiatives come in to provide locally funded health insurance. The first such program started in Santa Clara County - where one mother says it helped save her daughter’s life.
