The One About Stone Warriors And A Melancholy Fate

Cy Musiker and David Wiegand scout the Bay Area for things to do this coming weekend and turn up terracotta warriors, Noise Pop, and much more!

Kishi Bashi

February 27, 2013
Moe's Alley

You don't always equate violinists with being hip, but Kishi Bashi, who is classically trained in the instrument, proves that the two go hand in hand. Having toured as a member of Regina Spektor's band and of Montreal, Bashi has honed his live performance, which includes vocal looping and beat boxing. Check out what's all about at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz on February 27, 2013. For tickets and more information, visit moesalley.com.

China's Terracotta Warriors

February 22 - May 27, 2013
Asian Art Museum

Qin Shihuang, China's first emperor, ascended the throne at the tender age of 13. What he lacked in age, he made up for in brutality. Historians say he achieved the unification of China through devastating bloodshed that included burying scholars alive. His most sought-after conquest, however, was that of death. In order to achieve immortality, he constructed a tomb that housed a terracotta army of 7,000 life-sized figures and over 10,000 weapons. And now you can see a sample of these relics at the Asian Art Museum through May 27, 2013. For tickets and more information, visit asianart.org.

Ana Moura

February 28, 2013
SFJazz

Sometimes it feels good to revel in your emo side and sing the blues. And that's what Ana Moura does best in the style of Fado, a Portuguese type of music that is characterized by songs about betrayal, melancholy, and loss that dates back as far back as the early 1800s. Ana Moura performs at SFJazz on February 28, 2013. For tickets and more information, visit sfjazz.org.

February 24, 2013
Yoshi's

Oakland's John Handy, one of the greatest jazz saxophonists, is celebrating his 80th birthday with a show at Yoshi's on February 24, 2013. He hasn't worked much in the past few years so this is a good opportunity to check in! For tickets and more information, visit yoshis.com.
