The One About A Legal Eagle Rapper and Art With A Heart

Cy Musiker and David Wiegand scout the Bay Area for things to do this coming weekend and turn up a legal eagle rapper, art with a heart, and much more!

Mary Black

November 16 and 18, 2012
Sebastopol Community Cultural Center and Freight and Salvage

Considered one of the very best in Irish music, Mary Black has been wowing audiences for the past quarter-century with twenty best-selling albums and collaborations with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Joan Baez, and Van Morrison. If that's not convincing enough, British magazine What Hi-Fi considered her voice to be so pure that they use it to compare the sound quality of high fidelity systems. You can't really argue with that. Mary Black plays Sebastopol Community Cultural Center tonight and Berkeley's Freight and Salavge on Sunday.

(Affordable) Art From The Heart

November 16 - December 25, 2012
National Institute of Art and Disabilities

The nightmare of Christmas shopping is upon us, but it doesn't have to be so hard this time around. Ditch the mall and hit up the National Institute of Art and Disabilities, which is hosting a group show featuring every NIAD artist. The art is quite affordable and it's all for a great cause. The opening reception is from 2 through 5pm on Saturday. For more information, visit niadart.org.

Hopie Spitshard

November 21, 2012
Brick and Mortar

SF emcee Hopie launched on the underground hip hop scene in 2008 with The Diamond Dame, but then disappeared for a spell. Turns out she was getting her law degree! With that unexpected twist behind her, she's back in the rap game and is set to play Brick and Mortar next Wednesday. For tickets and more information, visit brickandmortartmusic.com.

ReOrient Festival

November 1 - 18, 2012
NOH Space and Z Space

In its thirteenth year, ReOrient continues to turn SF into "a Mecca for innovative, spirited, and thought-provoking theatre from and about the Middle East." This year features playwrights from Iraq, Iran, Egypt, England, and the U.S. Check out plays about everything from Persian poet Rumi to novice secret agents through November 18, 2012 at NOH Space and Z Space. For tickets and more information, visit goldenthread.org.

Anders Osborne

November 18 - 19, 2012
Uptown Theatre and 142 Throckmorton Theatre

Anders Osborne was born in Sweden, but his true home seems to be the road. He took to hitchhiking when he was 16, making his way through five continents before settling in New Orleans. From heavy electrics to joyful acoustics, Osborne does it all exceptionally well. Toots and the Maytalls have brought him on as a special guest for a pair of acoustic concerts at the Uptown Theatre in Napa on Sunday and the 142 Throckmorton Theatre on Monday. For tickets and more information, visit andersosborne.com.

Ana Gasteyer

November 16 - 18, 2012
Rrazz Room at the Hotel Nikko

You probably remember Ana Gasteyer from her time on SNL, playing characters like NPR Delicious Dish host Margaret Jo and flawlessly impersonating people like Martha Stewart. Now she's making a different kind of noise with her show Elegant Songs from a Handsome Woman, in which she blends her wit with show tunes and stories. For tickets and information, visit therrazzroom.com.
