Braunstein/Quay Gallery

View Gallery Crawl video of Braunstein/Quay Gallery's July 2006 show featuring solo exhibition of Michael McConnell's work. (Running Time: 7:00)

Listen to an interview with Ruth Braunstein about the founding of Braunstein/Quay Gallery 46 years ago. (Running Time: 6:19)

Ruth Braunstein opened her first gallery in 1961. Today, she exhibits all kinds of mediums from fiber art, furniture and glass to paintings, drawings and photographs in her large gallery space. Braunstein also began the ACCESS program in 1988, which opens her space to artists who have not previously exhibited in a gallery.

In the main gallery from July 6 to August 5, 2006, Braunstein/Quay is showing Michael McConnell's "not out of the woods yet." These paintings and sculptures challenge notions of innocence and an idealized childhood by adding an eerie quality to nostalgic images. Working with mediums ranging from acrylic and graphite to lace and stuffed-animals, McConnell explores the relationships between children and adults, as well as humans, animals and their environment.
