MACLA
View Gallery Crawl video of MACLA's group exhibition Domestic Alchemy from February 2 through March 7, 2007. (Running Time: 9:06)
Founded in 1989 by a group of community activists, Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana (MACLA) is a contemporary arts space where Latino artists create and showcase new work in the visual, literary, and performance arts. MACLA's large gallery hosts about 5 exhibitions annually in various media, from drawing to video installation to photography to mixed-media work.
From February 2 through March 7, 2007, MACLA presents a group show called "Domestic Alchemy" featuring the work of Alejandra Chaverri, Caleb Duarte, Nora Raggio and Cristina Velazquez. This exhibition is the first time each of the artists has shown their work at MACLA. The artists' works, which were created specifically for this show, are strikingly different from each other in both medium and sensibility but are connected to a larger theme of domesticity.
