Second Life -- Oct/Nov 2007
Gallery Crawl takes a trip through Second Life, checking out Odyssey and East of Odyssey, two private islands devoted to presenting various forms of art. Avatar Beavis Palowakski is our guide. (Running Time: 11:52)
Second Life is a virtual world -- or online "metaverse" -- created by San Francisco-based Linden Lab in 2003. In Second Life, users create alternate selves or "avatars," which can socialize, buy and sell goods, purchase land, design and build structures and create various forms of art -- among countless other activities.
In October 2007, Gallery Crawl went online to explore the art world that has sprung up inside Second Life, visiting two islands, Odyssey and East of Odyssey, devoted to the exhibition of various forms of "in world" art, including installation and performance.
We met up with Beavis Palowakski, the avatar of one of the folks responsible for the construction and curation of the Odyssey spaces. Artists featured include: Gazira Babeli and Adam Ramona (Adam Nash), among others.
