Position Summary

The Project Supervisor, Educational Services, is responsible for the delivery and growth of Education Network's professional and curricular resources serving the K-12 education community in the South Bay/greater San Jose region. This position will primarily focus on outreach programs aligned with PBS Kids Go! programs for elementary school students (ages 6-10) and those who serve them. The Project Supervisor will launch the work of KTEH Educational Services in Santa Clara County and play a central role in the growth and development of educational outreach projects that are of need and interest to the communities served. This position is responsible for designing, scheduling and delivering professional development trainings and events for educators in schools and informal education organizations, reaching out to parent groups and is also responsible for developing and publishing educational content for print materials and the Web site. The Project Supervisor will work with educators from the community to develop and implement relevant, useful educational offerings in conjunction with what is available from PBS and developed locally by Education Network staff to best serve their students. The Project Supervisor will position the station as a leader in the education community through building and maintaining excellent professional development trainings and curricular resources as well as relationships with partner organizations and agencies. As a representative of KTEH, this position will work closely with other station staff at the station as well as with other Education Network staff at KQED.

Position Accountabilities

  • Develops, schedules, promotes, and presents professional development trainings for educators, parents/care givers, and members of youth serving community-based organizations.
  • Supervises the development of and/or develops directly the curricular and instructional content for educator guides and other materials for print, DVD and Web-based publication.
  • Builds partnerships with districts, county offices of education, community-based education organizations, and higher education to extend our reach of offered teacher trainings, and co-sponsoring of events, trainings, and curriculum development.
  • Designs and coordinates outreach events in the region.
  • Incorporates Web-based resources into outreach plans.
  • Oversees program evaluation process for all work, tracks participation and feedback, and enters into appropriate databases.
  • Supports the cultivation of new funders to Educational Services through working closely with the Educational Services Associate Director and NCPB
  • Development to craft funding proposals, meeting with funders, and gathering statistical and evaluation data.
  • Supervises independent contractors and interns.
  • Identifies opportunities for programmatic growth and direction in new outreach areas based on recognized community need and interest.
  • Represents Education Network at local and regional educational meetings and conferences.
  • Works effectively as an individual and team member, and collaborates with Education Network staff and other NCPB divisions.
  • Performs other essential duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Three to five years minimum experience teaching in elementary schools.
  • CA Teaching Credential in social studies and bachelor's degree in history, social science, and/or literature strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two to three years experience in project supervision, including budget development/management and event planning.
  • Minimum of two to three years experience in teacher professional development (can be peer-peer work)
  • Ability to travel to and from assigned event sites within the Bay Area, in own car.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and follow-through capabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication as well as presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and educational partners.
  • Database and word-processing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in media literacy.
  • Demonstrated experience with integrating technology into teaching of content.
  • Commitment to educational equity for all students.
  • Ability to constantly sit for six to eight hours; ability to occasionally walk, stand, bend, as well as push and pull; ability to frequently lift and carry 10 lbs; as well as ability to occasionally lift and carry 11-25 lbs.

  • Multilingual capabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of schools in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and/or Monterey counties a plus.
