TV Program Distribution Internship

Terms Available:
Winter Term: September–December
Spring Term: January–April
Summer Term: May–August

Internship Summary:
TV Program Distribution Interns assist in expanding the distribution of programs to public television stations around the country. The internship provides an opportunity to learn about public television programming and become well versed in the process of releasing programs through PBS in this high-energy, fast-paced department. Duties vary considerably -- ranging from program duplication, logging tapes and working with archival footage, assisting with large mailings, and clerical duties, to tracking proposals, research, and writing. Activities extend the efforts of the department by assisting with day-to-day requests and ongoing projects. We will only select students who can earn course credit at the college level (no exceptions); BEFORE applying, students are required to inquire if they can receive course credit from their counselors, major department heads, or professors in order to be considered! Be specific in the internship(s) of interest, ability to receive course credit as a college student (no exceptions), and available term within the body of the cover letter. Resumes and cover letters are required from students to apply for KQED internships. All internships are non-paid. Once a college student has been accepted for the internship, the individual may provide "Proof of Credit" or a signed verification form from an a counselor, major department head, or professor before starting the KQED internshp program. A verification form obtained from the Human Resources department is also required upon acceptance into the KQED internship.
Internship Duties:
go Researches sales prospects and assists writing pitch letters.
go Logs, reviews and maintains program proposals for national presentations.
go Files and organizes program materials, tapes and DVDs.
go Assembles and mails press kits and other materials to PBS stations.
go Makes and mails program dubs.
go Other projects as assigned.
Internship Qualifications:
go Willing to take on all aspects of the job with enthusiasm, from the most mundane to the more exciting tasks.
go Keen interest and/or experience in broadcasting, sales and in being part of a focused, high-energy team.
go Strong organizational, follow-up, and research skills.
go Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention-to-detail.
go Self starter. Ability to work independently.
go MS Word & Excel a must. Familiarity with FileMaker Pro a plus.
