SPARKed - SPARK in Education Internship

Internship Summary:

"SPARK" is a three-tiered project about Bay Area art and artists, including a weekly television program, a Web site, and educational outreach. The educational outreach program is called "SPARKed: SPARK in Education." "SPARKed" develops content for educational materials and the Web, and conducts an extensive array of projects with the Bay Area arts and arts education communities, including screenings, workshops, teacher training, seminars, and other presentations. The "SPARKed" Intern assists the Project Manager in the development of educational content for educators and the general public to expand and deepen understanding of the artists featured on "SPARK." The Intern is involved in research and writing on tight, weekly deadlines to help generate artist publication-quality content in all of the arts disciplines (music, dance, theatre, visual arts, new media, poetry/spoken word).

Internship Duties:

  • Researches text, media, audio, and video resources on contemporary Bay Area artists, and issues raised by the art and art practices.
  • Writes artist biographies, art and discipline histories, educational activities, and brief resource descriptions and reviews.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on local, regional, and national arts resources.
  • Assembles Educator Guides and other educational tools.
  • Supports community and educational activities for SPARK with partner organizations.
  • Performs other projects duties as assigned.

Internship Qualifications:

  • Arts Education or Art History majors strongly preferred - Fine Arts majors with teaching experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge and experience of Bay Area arts organizations, artists, and issues.
  • Knowledge of 19th and 20th century art histories, including Western and non-Western artistic genres, artists, movements, and styles.
  • Knowledge of the general artistic, social, and political significance of living contemporary artists and art practices.
  • Strong organizational and research skills.
  • Ability to work independently on tight deadlines and to balance multiple projects.
  • Interest in arts education and professional development for educators.
  • Commitment to the arts and increasing arts knowledge for the general public.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using Word, Excel, and FileMaker Pro, and conducting research online.

To qualify for this internship, you must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution and be able to earn course credit at the college level (no exceptions). When sending your resume and cover letter, please be certain to reference your the internship(s) of interest, ability to receive course credit as a college student, and available term within the body of the cover letter.

All internships are unpaid.

Once a college student has been accepted for the internship, the individual will be required to provide "Proof of Credit" or a signed verification form from a counselor, major department head, or professor before beginning the KQED internship program.
