Frontier Asians -- This special program from Crossing East's Asian-American history series explores the communities, farms and ranches settled by Asian-Americans on the frontier. Hosted by George Takei, the show includes the unusual story of Ing "Doc" Hay, Chinese frontier herbalist and the most respected citizen of an Eastern Oregon town. The program also features the little known stories of Asian frontier women such as Polly Bemis (Lalu Nathoy), a woman sold to work as a prostitute who escaped to Idaho, and Wong Ah So, saved from the slave trade by missionaries in San Francisco. The program also recognizes the Asian contribution to the farming of the West through a story about the legacy of Japanese farmers in California.
