BART Retrofit ... BART Case ... SJSU Update ... Sports


BART Plans Seismic Retrofit of Transbay Tube, Other Structures
BART is moving forward with plans to retrofit the Transbay Tube, connecting Oakland to San Francisco. Yesterday the transit agency's board approved a $7.7 million contract to install steel plating inside the tube over the next two years. BART plans to reinforce 34 stations, 22 miles of track, parking structures, and other facilities against earthquakes. Officials say the overall plan is 85 percent complete

Burris Representing Family of Man Shot Dead by BART Police
A well-known local civil rights attorney is representing the family of a homeless man shot dead by BART police last summer. Attorney John Burris says the officers had no good reason to shoot Charles Hill at the Civic Center station.BART Police say Hill was armed with two knives and a bottle.

SJSU Dorm Intruder Not Found
San Jose State University is getting back to normal after reports of a prowler on campus. Police searched this morning for a man said to have broken into a room at the Joe West dormitory and groped a woman inside. San Jose State advises students to keep their doors locked and report anything suspicious to University police.

Sports Weekend: Pro Bowl, Cal-Stanford, Skating, A's FanFest
In sports, NFL, six Niners and four Raiders are on the roster for this Sunday's Pro Bowl. Pro hoops, the Warriors host the Thunder tonight. Kings play the Jazz in Utah tomorrow. College hoops, Stanford women host Cal tomorrow afternoon; Cal men host Stanford on Sunday. The US Figure Skating National Championships continue in San Jose through the weekend. Baseball, the A's hold their FanFest on Sunday, the Giants' version is next weekend.
