A judge in Los Angeles has sentenced former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle to two years in prison in the shooting death of Oscar Grant. Judge Robert Perry also gave Mehserle credit for 10 months served. Grant was unarmed and lying face down on the Fruitvale Station platform when he was shot. Mehserle could have been sentenced to 14 years on the involuntary manslaughter conviction, and an accompanying "gun enhancement." Judge Perry set aside the enhancement during sentencing today.
