Caltrans Assures Bay Bridge is Safe for All Traffic
The Bay Bridge has been back in service since
Tuesday, carrying its typical load of a quarter-million
cars and trucks a day. An engineer at UC Berkeley has
questioned whether the span should be returned to normal
service after Caltrans crews found and repaired a crack
in a bridge support. But Tony Anziano, the Caltrans
project manager for seismic upgrades on the state's Bay
Area toll bridges, says he's confident the bridge was
thoroughly inspected before it went back into service
and is safe for all traffic.
