Examining California's Higher Education Crisis
University of California President Mark Yudof unveiled his plan today to close UC's $800 million budget shortfall. His plan relies partly on student fee increases, partly on pay cuts and furloughs for staff and faculty, and part on trims still to be made on the university's 10 campuses. Yudof commented that the state master plan that aims to guarantee a college education for every California high school graduate is a model for the rest of the world, but is "withering in the place of its birth."
