The Obama administration wants to strengthen oversight of the nation's pipelines. Under the proposal from the Department of Transportation, the number of inspectors overseeing the nation's vast pipeline network would increase from 100 to 140, and the fines for saferty violations would increase significantly. The plan will be introduced as a bill by California senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer.
