Explosion in San Bruno
Firefighters are battling a large fire burning on a hillside in San Bruno near the area of Skyline Boulevard and San Bruno Avenue, on the peninsula due west of San Francisco airport.

A large fire is raging in a San Bruno neighborhood near the area of Skyline Boulevard and San Bruno Avenue, just west of San Francisco airport.
The explosion and resulting fire was probably caused by a high-power gas line, says San Bruno Fire Chief Dennis Haag.
Dozens of homes are engulfed in fire and several blocks of homes appear to have been destroyed.
Reports are still coming in about casualties that are now arriving at nearby hospitals. Fire fighters are going to door in the area trying to evacuate the injured. Evacuees are being taken to San Bruno Community Center.

• People trying to contact local residents are being directed to the Bay Hill Shopping Center. There is a shelter at the San Bruno Veterans Recreation Center.
Traffic:Northbound I-280 exit is closed at northbound Hwy 35/Skyline Blvd due to a fire in the area. Northbound and southbound I-280 San Bruno Avenue exits are closed and Skyline Blvd at College is closed.
