Caltrain Cuts Rejected ... Spare the Air ... San Carlos PD Dissolved

Caltrain Board Rejects Service Cuts
Officials at Caltrain have decided not to cut back service as a way of closing the agency's $2.3 million deficit. However, service cuts will probably be back up for discussion next summer, with a projected deficit of nearly $30 million in fiscal year 2012.

Spare the Air Day Today
It's another Spare the Air Day: the third in a row, and the fifth this summer. According to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the highest ozone levels will be in the East Bay and the Santa Clara Valley. People with breathing conditions should stay inside as much as possible, and all residents are asked to limit their driving.

San Carlos Dissolves Police Department
San Carlos city officials have voted to dissolve their police department. Last night the council voted to merge the department with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department. The city plans to save about two million dollars a year, and all of the officers' jobs are safe for at least the next year.
