Water Flowing Toward Money: A Hetch Hetchy Story

In California water flows uphill toward money. That's particularly true of the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite National Park. Among Hetch Hetchy's many impacts, the water it brought to San Francisco dramatically increased land values in the city and other parts of the Bay Area. That architectural and engineering feat, including the massive O'Shaughnessy Dam and the system of aqueducts that carry water to the metropolis, is the subject of an exhibit opening tonight at the American Institute of Architects offices in San Francisco. Host Cy Musiker talks with Margie O'Driscoll, the AIA's executive director, about Hetch Hetchy's remarkable history.
