Stem Cells, Abortion Discussed In Debate
Democrat Barbara Boxer and Republican Carly Fiorina took on some hot-button issues in their debate last night for the US Senate. Fiorina would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade and opposes abortion rights; Boxer supports them. But Fiorina said she was not opposed to embryonic stem-cell research unless the embryos were created specifically for that purpose.

CPUC Will Hear Report On SmartMeters
The California Public Utilities Commission will hear a consultants' report about PG&E's SmartMeters today. Consumers and some cities have complained that the meters don't work well, invade their privacy, and may have unintended health effects. PG&E says the meters give consumers vital information about their energy usage.
