Prison Population Drops, but Not Enough to Meet Court Order
A new study from the Pew Center on the States
says a change in parole policies is responsible for a
"significant" drop in California's prison population.
California imprisons about 167,000 inmates, down about
3,000 from a year ago. But the state still faces a
federal court order to make further cuts in the number
of inmates.
