Thousands of Teachers Receive Pink Slips
Today is the legal deadline for California
teachers to get pink slips. State Superintendent Jack
O'Connell says California school districts have issued
layoff notices to nearly 22,000 teachers and other
employees. Pink slips are a traditional rite in tough
budget years. School districts often rescind them when
they firm up their budgets, but that's not likely this
year with the state budget $20 billion in the hole.
