San Francisco's School Assignment System

Download audio (MP3)

Last week, thousands of San Francisco families got the results of a lottery telling them which public school their children could attend in the fall. For some, the results brought relief. Others are wondering whether to try again for a school they really want, or to leave the district altogether. We talk with parents and district officials about the school assignment lottery.

Host: Scott Shafer

Guests:

  • Amy Graff, author of "The SF K Files," a blog that chronicles Graff's experience finding a school for her daughter
  • Jane Kim, vice president of the Board of Education of the City and County of San Francisco
  • Maria Morgan-Butcher, realtor and mother of two
  • Orla O'Keeffe, special assistant to the superintendent for the San Francisco Unified School District
