Download audio (MP3)

First published as the Daily Dramatic Chronicle in 1865, the San Francisco Chronicle faces its own drama this week. The Hearst Corporation, which owns the Chronicle, announced Tuesday that the newspaper must cut expenses or it will be sold or closed down. We discuss the prospect of San Francisco losing its only major daily newspaper.

Host: Michael Krasny

Guests:

  • Carl Hall, local representative of California Media Workers Guild
  • Louis Freedberg, director of California Media Collaborative
  • Tom Rosenstiel, director of the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism
