A first of its kind exhibition at San Francisco's de Young Museum and an accompanying book chronicle the largely forgotten 19th and 20th century art of Asian Americans. We speak with some of the scholars and artists involved.

  • Kimi Kodani Hill, granddaughter of painter Chiura Obata who is featured in the exhibition
  • Mark Dean Johnson, professor of art at San Francisco State University, principal editor of "Asian American Art: A History, 1850-1970" and co-director of the Stanford Asian American Art Project
