America's kids are overworked and stressed-out. At least, that's become the conventional wisdom. But a report published this week by the Center for American Progress finds that many students say their school work is actually too easy. We'll discuss this apparent contradiction. What are schools doing to improve academic engagement?

Host: Michael Krasny

Guests:

  • Aaron Eisberg, 3rd and 4th grade science and technology teacher, Neil Cummins Elementary School, Larkspur
  • Denise Pope, senior lecturer at the Stanford University School of Education, co-founder of Challenge Success and author of "Doing School: How We Are Creating a Generation of Stressed-Out, Materialistic, and Miseducated Students"
  • Dewaina Hardee, 5th grade teacher, Allendale Elementary School in Oakland
  • Sharon Olken, executive director for Gateway Public Schools, two college preparatory charter schools in San Francisco
  • Ulrich Boser, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress
