Paul McHugh's 'Deadlines'
As a San Francisco Chronicle reporter in the 1990s, Paul McHugh blew the lid off malfeasance in the state park system involving the Asilomar Conference Center near Monterey. McHugh draws on some of these journalistic experiences in his new mystery novel, "Deadlines," which deals with the murder of a California land-use activist -- and a young newspaper reporter's involvement in the investigation.
